Preparing your Order

 

How do I properly count the pages? What if my pages have text on one side only?

We count pages the same way a book does – one leaf is two pages. Turn to the back of the book and check the page number of the last page and you’re good to go. If the book has only one-sided text, we still require payment for both sides, as our scanning process does the two facing pages at once, therefore the time and labor is the same on our end. However we will not send you blank pages, we will remove them for you during the final processing.

My book has multiple languages on the same page. Will it convert correctly?

Yes, we use an advanced multi-lingual OCR process that can convert many languages.

Can I have the book shipped directly to you from Amazon or another book retailer?

Absolutely, please write that in the Comments field of our checkout and choose ‘gift’ in the checkout options of the retailer so that you can enter an alternative shipping address.

What about copyright?

It is the customer’s responsibility to insure compliance with all copyright laws, as Bound Book Scanning cannot be held liable for any copyright infringement.

Do you accept orders from outside the USA?

Definitely, but the return shipping may not be free in that case. Contact us to confirm.

Do you offer pick-up service?

We are located in southern New York. If your book scan order is more than fifty books and you are located in NY, NJ, CT, or eastern PA, contact us to inquire if we’d be willing to pick them up.

Which shipping method do you recommend?

The USPS offers discounted “Media Mail” rates which are ideal for shipping books, and are based on weight and not on size. Please refer to USPS.

Scanning Details

 

What is included in the base package?

You will receive by email to download an editable Word document and a searchable PDF document.

What is your turnaround time and is that guaranteed?

Generally, 4-6 business days from receipt of your book. If you need the project sooner, please choose our rush option to have your book scan completed within 24 hours. Rush orders are limited to three books and are guaranteed. Occasionally, we do get backed up and our turn times increase so if your project is a rush either choose the rush fee or contact us to confirm before placing the order.

What is the maximum size book you can scan?

Our equipment can accommodate books of different sizes, thicknesses, types of bindings and is especially suitable for fragile and old books.
Non-Destructive Scanning: Maximum page size: 11″W x 14″H, Maximum book thickness: 4.5 inches. Destructive Scanning: Maximum page size: 12″W x 160″ H.

Is your non-destructive scanning process damaging to fragile books?

We have the same equipment that is being use in libraries, universities, and museums around the world. Unlike conventional flatbed scanners that cause damage to books as a result of applying force in an attempt to flatten pages, our scanning is performed with minimal handling and without laying books out flat and applying force to bindings. Basically, if your book can be opened without damage, it can be scanned without damage using our non-destructive option.

When will my book be returned?

We will return your book by mail upon your confirmation of acceptance and approval of our scan.

How do I perform additional editing work such as splitting, reordering, adding or cropping pages?

For additional editing work we recommend downloading a 30-day free trial version of Adobe Acrobat Professional. If large volume editing work is needed, we keep a network of outsource contractors who are available to perform the work quickly and affordably, please contact us for a specific quote.

My scans show some OCR errors. Do you offer a proofreading service?

Yes! We maintain a network of professional proofreading editors in all languages. Please contact us for a customized quote.

Do you accept payment other than PayPal?

Yes, you can calculate your total on our checkout page and along with your book shipment, include a check or money order for that amount made out to Bound Book Scanning.

I don’t have access to a printer. Must I include an order confirmation with my package?

Generally not necessary, as we match up your order based on the title of the book. However if you aren’t paying through PayPal (see previous) then it will be necessary.

Do you offer volume discounts?

Yes, if your order is for more than fifty books, please contact us for a volume discount quote.
